Peter Fondas Chopper Up For Auction

USPA NEWS - The classic stars-and-stripes Harley-Davidson chopper riden by Peter Fonda in the cult movie of 1968, Easy Rider, is up for auction next month. Experts say that selling price might reach $1 million- $1.2 million.
Symbol of the counter-culture movement of the 1960's, the customized "Captain America" chopper, is expected to sell for almost $1.2 million because it's the only one remaining from filming.
This iconic Harley is being sold by Michael Eisenberg, a California businessman who was co-owner of a los Angeles motorcycle-themed restaurant with Fonda and easy Rider co-star, Dennis Hopper.
Mr. eisenberg had boguht the bike from the National Motrocycle Museum and Dan Haggerty, best known to the public for his role in the "Grizzly Adams" tv show. Haggerty was in charge of keeping the custom bike humming during the filming.
The off-the -factory line- looking chopper is accompanied by three letters of authenticity. One signed by the Motorcycle museum
where it was displayed for 12 years. Another letter is signed by Peter Fonda and the third is signed by Haggerty.
The bike was a central part of the film, produced and co-written and directed by Dennis Hopper.
Easy Rider is about 2 long-haired bikers traveling through the southwest and southern U.S. where they encounter intolerance and violence. The 2 bikers find death at the end of the movie by the hand of a redneck. It all ends with the flaming bike set in the middle of a desert road.
Jack Nicholson, who played an alcoholic civil rights lawyer who rides along with Fonda and Hopper, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Hopper and Fonda were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Screenplay.
