USPA NEWS - Second podium finish of the season for Valentino Rossi, ex World Champion. Second place for teammate Jorge Lorenzo and Bradley Smith 3rd.
Marc Marquez, reigning Champion falls on the 17th lap while leading.
The "Doctor", as Rossi is nicknamed, celebrates his 250th start in the premier class (500cc and MotoGP) on Phillip Island where he last stepped on the podium in 2005. This is his 108th success in his racing career.
The Australian race was charecterized by many falls. After Marc Marquez, english rider for ducati, Cal Crutchlow, fell 2 laps away from finish when he was in 2nd place allowing Lorenzo and Smith to finish on podium.
Fourth place for Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati), while Alex De angelis (Forward Yamaha) ends up in ninth.
With the MotoGP Championship heading for the semi-finals and with Marc Marquez alreading crowned Champion, the battle for second place in the final world standings is open. Valentino Rossi leads with 255 points over teammate Jorge Lorenzo 247 points.
"It was a great race! said Rossi. An exhilirating battle with Lorenzo but my motorcycle had an edge on his and at the end I was able to pass and finish in first place after the unfortunate incident that occured to Marquez".
"I'm also happy because Phillip Island is a difficult track and I love it. Besides, I last won this race ten years ago".
