MILAN- EXPO IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR SAYS SAYS ITALIAN PRESIDENT

MATTARELLA LOOKS TOWARDS ITAYs FUTURE

USPA NEWS - Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Monday said Expo is "a great occasion and a precious opportunity for the country's system," speaking at a ceremony for Italian Quality Day, an event for the annual Leonardo Prizes awarded at the Quirinal Palace, where the president resides.
Mattarella spoke about the challenge of modernizing Italy and its diverse bureaucratic systems, urging "everyone to pitch in and do their part", and calling on politicians to combat corruption, which he said had become "intolerable." The president said it was the responsibility of Italy's public administration to usher in reforms, take advantage of opportunities and embrace simplicity.
"The public administration has to do it, putting to work their intelligence, staying anchored, in their actions, to the principles of the Constitution and rapidly adapting to the potential of new technologies, and to the sensitivity of citizens who are asking for transparency, simplicity in fulfilling their obligations, and consistency in decision-making," Mattarella said.
Regarding employment and growth, the president said that too many jobs and too much productive capacity had been lost in recent years.
"We must continue on the path of necessary reforms and growth initiatives established at the European Union level," he said.
